Book Review
Noble Secrets by Cecilia Dominic

I’ve been eyeing the Aether Psychics series by Cecilia Dominic for a few months. The covers are eye-catching so I snatched up this opportunity to read a prequel novella to see if I would like the world and characters in the Aether Psychics universe.

I’m happy to report that I loved the world. A mix of Victorian London with a splash of fantasy, I was immediately connected with Pauline, an intelligent girl forced to hide her brains. She has a way about her that attracts the attention of the Duke. And suddenly I saw the story unfolding in front of me and I squealed with delight. (Don’t worry I won’t spoil it.)

While there isn’t much exposure to the universe that is more than likely created in the full novels in the series, this novella will give you feeling for how Dominic writes, builds her characters and paints the world in which her characters live. I was enchanted and only hope that I get to see more of Pauline and Christopher in the full novels or meet other delightful characters like them when I read the full novels in the series.

About Cecilia Dominic

Cecilia Dominic headshot

Cecilia Dominic wrote her first story when she was two years old and has always had a much more interesting life inside her head than outside of it. She became a clinical psychologist because she’s fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn’t stop writing fiction. The first draft of her dissertation, while not fiction, was still criticized by her major professor for being written in too entertaining a style. She made it through graduate school and got her PhD, started her own practice, and by day, she helps people cure their insomnia without using medication. By night, she blogs about wine and writes fiction she hopes will keep her readers turning the pages all night. Yes, she recognizes the conflict of interest between her two careers, so she writes and blogs under a pen name. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with one husband and two cats, which, she’s been told, is a good number of each. She also enjoys putting her psychological expertise to good use helping other authors through her Characters on the Couch blog post series.

  1. Thank you so much for the review! I’m glad Pauline was a delightful surprise for you. You get a little more of her and Christopher in Eros Element, and a lot more of Edward.

    Thanks again!

    • Cecilia, after reading Noble Secrets I signed up for Candace’s tour for the 3rd book in the series. I’m nearly done with book three! I hope to finish it tonight. I think I’m close to being done, I’ve just been so tired at night I haven’t had much time to read! No fault of yours, life is just busy lately.

The book that totally took me by surprise was Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I went into it expecting a straight up WWII fiction novel (it was lent to me without a book jacket by someone with those literary leanings) and was blown away by the fantasy tilt. It was actually an awesome read because of that.

The last book to surprise me was Landline by Rainbow Rowell, I am not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t that the book was perfect for me 🙂
Thank you for sharing this book 🙂
