Fall is hanging on here in Iowa. We are hitting some unexpected highs this weekend. And while I am not a fan of the cold and snow, I am itching for a change. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I purchased the TweakMe v2 theme from Nosegraze (affiliate link). Over the last week or so I’ve been working on a new layout for Second Run Reviews. Like winter this year, I’m trying not to rush into rolling out the new design. But it is so darn difficult to not be excited about the things I’m learning and doing and not share those things IMMEDIATELY with all of you. So to help calm my excitement, I thought I would share where I’m headed. While I am keeping my logo and the color scheme somewhat the same (I’ll be adding light purple as an accent color), I designed a new header using Canva and am working through some new menu layouts. I thought, perhaps, after two years of blogging, my love of books and talking about books would wane a bit. But I’m as excited as ever for this next season…this next chapter…here at Second Run Reviews. And I can’t wait to share it […]

Maybe one of the hardest things in life is being okay with yourself and your choices. Giving thanks each day that you are alive. Being thankful that the decisions you have made in your life have lead you, hopefully, to the place that you want to be. Today I’m thankful I’m me. I’m thankful that the choices I’ve made in life have led me to the here and now. Somedays are hard and I might complain more than necessary, but I’m alive. I’m free to make more choices and change my path. Some people may not like me or the choices I’ve made, but this is my life. And I’m thankful for it.
Growing up in Minnesota, just a hop, skip and a jump from the Iowa border, I know all the jokes about Iowans. And then, I decided to go to college in Iowa and then I decided to stay in Iowa. I’ve lived in Iowa since September of 1996. And I love Iowa (except during election season). The people are friendly. The people are helpful. Where I live, we have access to great bookstores, a movie theatre, excellent coffee and wine. It’s everything I never dreamed I would enjoy. I thought I would be a Minnesota country girl forever. But I fell in love with Iowa and I’m thankful, most of the time, I decided to make my home here. Thank you, Iowa, for being so much like Minnesota, but with easier access (without the larger metro areas) to the things I love.
There are so many quotes about friendship that I can’t even keep track. And then, of course, there’s the Golden Girls theme song which I’m sure, thanks the to the title of this post, you are humming right now. 🙂 Friends play such an important role in my life. I’ve got book friends, blogging friends, author friends, family friends, Disney friends…so many different kinds of friends. It just blows my mind! When I did I become so adult and have friends that actually care about me and my interests and support me in most of the things I choose to do? So I just want to take a moment and say thank you to all my friends…near and far, old and new. I appreciate all the support you’ve given me and I only hope I’m as good of friend to you as you are to me.
