That’s What He Said: Another quote from Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

“…When we first met, I was convinced you were about to cut my throat. But scared as I was, there was this tiny voice in my head saying: If this is the last face you ever see, at least it’s a beautiful one.” –Jacob to Emma My other favorite Hallow City exchange between Jacob and Emma. My Review The Miss Peregrine series by Ransom Riggs is one of my favorite series. It combines several things that I am dearly fond of. A compelling historical fiction plot with endearing protagonists and creepy antagonists. The physical book is a beauty to behold and is a good weight (not too heavy and not too light). It’s well constructed with amazingly odd photographs, detailed end papers with a design that repeats itself at chapter and part breaks. Without the dust cover, the book appears to be an old classic with its silver inlaid title and decorations. And when placed side by side with book one is the series, it creates a lovely symmetrical tableau on my bookshelf. Book Review 92: Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

The Miss Peregrine series by Ransom Riggs is one of my favorite series. It combines several things that I am dearly fond of. A compelling historical fiction plot with endearing protagonists and creepy antagonists. The physical book is a beauty to behold and is a good weight (not too heavy and not too light). Without the dust cover, the book appears to be an old classic with its silver inlaid title and decorations. And when placed side by side with book one is the series, it creates a lovely symmetrical tableau on my bookshelf. The second book in the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series, Hollow City isn’t nearly as creepy as book one and it has a faster pace. Hollow City picks up right where book one left off and doesn’t let up till the end. Which for some empathetic readers, like myself, can be a tad overwhelming. There is great character development for Emma and Jacob as they grow to know themselves and each other through the perils they face with the other Peculiars. Young love is always […]

That’s What He Said: Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

Come join ChapterBreak.net every Thursday by posting a favorite line from your book boyfriend to his heroine. Keep in mind these are direct quotes from dialogue in a book. It is NOT a physical description of a male protag or a paragraph of dialogue. It is a line spoken by our favorite heroes to their lucky ladies. “What is it?” Emma said. “You’re staring at me.” “I wanted to thank you,” I said. She wrinkled her nose at me and squinted like I’d said something funny. “Thank me for what?” she said. “You give me the strength I didn’t know I had,” I said. “You make me better.” I have had my copy of Hollow City for nearly a year. As photographer, I am a huge fan of how Riggs takes old photographs and weaves an exciting story around them. The above conversation happens between Emma and Jacob early in the the story. I knew he liked her, but this sudden revelation caught me by surprise as much as it did Emma. Book Snapshot       Twitter 5 Facebook 5 Google+ 0 Pinterest 0 StumbleUpon 0
