Book Review 42: Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride

My Rating: Thumbs Down       Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride caught my eye on the clearance rack at Half Price Books. It was shiny, dark and ominous. The cover was in total contradiction to the humorous description on the back. The book seemed right up my alley. A fish-out-of-water-save-the-world story with a side of humor. The book was funny. Death wearing saddle shoes. One of the main characters was…nevermind, don’t want to spoil that bit. But there was too much going on—a lot of back story and paranormal politics that were not adequately explained. It was hard enough following Sam through the discovery of his powers. Then you throw in the shape shifters and their problems and the power struggles between the different paranormal types, you’ve got a mess on your hands. Of course, with all that going on, there are loads of characters to keep straight and each time Sam needed to move to the next stage of discovery, a new character was thrown into the mix to help the story move along.
