At the end of June, beginning of July, my husband and I traveled to Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Fall, ON. We spent a week sight seeing and wandering through Niagara Falls State Park. Those of you familiar with the area will know that this picture it taken on the Canadian side of the Falls near the top of Horseshoe Falls. While rainbows are rare occurrences here in Iowa, depending on the time of day, rainbows are seen quite often in the mist of the Falls.
Taken on July 5, 2015 in Niagara Falls, Ontario with an iPhone 5s.
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow. Why then, oh, why can’t I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow why, oh, why can’t I?
I’ll admit I’m somewhat picky about the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The best version in my opinion is the version straight from the movie The Wizard of Oz, but I do have a soft spot for the mashup of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Nicolas David from The Voice did an excellent cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow as well. It’s the only other non-mashup version I own besides the Judy Garland version. And of course, my guys, Straight No Chaser did a mashup of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I’m Yours.
I still always come back to the Garland version. Sometimes the original is best, y’know? Do you have a favorite version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow?
