The Princess Bride has a special place in my heart. It’s one of the first movies I recall watching with my husband before we started dating. When we did start dating “As you wish…” was our “Okay. Okay.” And you can often hear one of us say to the cats, as we leave the house, “Have fun storming the castle, boys!”

This week we had the opportunity to watch one of our nieces and one of our nephews for two and half days. I survived, barely, but it was a fun, if exhausting, experience. On Tuesday night, Jay decided it was time for the kids to watch The Princess Bride. Five is not too young and I guess neither is two based on the picture my sister texted me yesterday (my nephew was pretending to be the Princess Bride).

At the end of the movie, as the credits start to roll my niece says, “That was a good movie.” I responded, recalling the final exchange between Fred Savage and Peter Falk, “Would you like to watch it again tomorrow?” To which she answers, “No.” *smiles* She’ll learn; she’s only five.

  1. I’m fairly certain I could watch Princess Bride every day and not get bored. I also LOVE the book. I think it’s about time for another re-read…
