In the Spotlight with Brittney Mulliner
Welcome to Second Run Reviews, Brittney! Thank you for being In the Spotlight. I appreciate you stopping by and answering a few questions. So let’s get things started.
In a tweet (140 characters or less), tell us a bit about yourself.
I write b/c the characters in my head won’t let me stop. I love working out with my husband, I read A LOT, & my favorite word is wanderlust
1. a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about.
Wanderlust is a beautiful word and one I can definitely relate to!
Please tell a bit about your journey to becoming a published author. What’s been the best things about it and the worst?
I started out by self-publishing and about a year into it I signed with a small publishing company. Things were great for a minute until they closed their doors. Things like that happen all the time in the publishing world. It’s a rollercoaster with a lots of drops, twists, and loops. It takes a lot of courage as a writer to keep going and pushing yourself even when the odds are against you. Eventually, the hard work pays off and at the end of the day I’m doing something I love.
What a wonderful way to describe the road to getting published. I’m sure many of the authors I have interviewed would agree with you.
Tell us a bit about your latest release. What inspired you to write it? Why should fans of Second Run Reviews consider reading it.
Live Again is the follow up to Begin Again is about Aubrey Tate, a seventeen year old, that recently moved across the country to live with her brother and move on from her past. Just when her life is settling down she begins receiving notes, pictures, and threats from an anonymous source. The past she thought she left behind is still following her. Again, she faces the threat of a stalker who has the potential to unravel her perfect new life. Aubrey has no choice but to try to stay strong with the support of her brother and friends.
Ooo, intriguing. Sounds like both books would be great for fans of suspense and mystery.
What types of books do you enjoy reading the most? What three books to you find yourself recommending to your fans over and over?
I love YA contemporary! I’ve dabbled in Sci-Fi and Dystopian and Paranormal, but always come back to my first love. I love anything by Rachel Van Dyken, but her Consequences series is my favorite! Another favorite is the Girl Spoken For series by Suzie T Roo. Finally, The One by Kristin Vayden.
I am the COMPLETE opposite. I’ll read a contemporary novel and head right back to the historical fiction, science fiction or fantasy worlds! Good thing there are so many different types of books!
What is your current obsession? Any secret obsessions you would like to share?
I’ve been on a strange country music kick lately. I’ve created a great playlist and listen to it ALL THE TIME right now.
My secret obsession is One Direction. I love them. No shame.
My condolences on the Zane’s departure from the group. (Did I get that right? I don’t listen to the radio much. *laughs*)
What is one question you wish I would have asked, that I haven’t?
What are you working on next?
I finished a book in May and it’s currently finding it’s home with a publisher. My current work-in-progress is the third and final book in the series which should be out by this fall!
Congratulations you most recently finished novel! And good luck with your WIP. 🙂 I hope you’ll return to In the Spotlight in 2017 and tell us more.
Any last thoughts or wise words you want to pass along?
Keep reading good books! If you love these books, write reviews. Your favorite authors need them.
Yes! Yes! And yes! Reviews are love letters to your favorite authors and the biggest hug ever!
Thank you, Brittney, for being In the Spotlight. I certainly hope you’ll come back next year and tell us more about your latest releases. Good luck with all your future projects.
