In the Spotlight feature kicked off in April 2015 and is an opportunity for authors, editors and publishers (basically anyone in the book industry (yes, even bloggers!)) to connect with fans. There is an option to do an interview, guest post, feature a book sale or book release or a cover reveal. Best of all, it’s free! All you need to do is click on the image to reserve your spot!
Now on with the show!
In the Spotlight with Jade Eby
Welcome BACK to Second Run Reviews, Jade! Thank you for being In the Spotlight again. I appreciate you stopping by and answering a few questions. So let’s get things started.
Share a picture you have taken and tell us a little bit about it.
This is my newest fur(less) baby, Luna, and I love this picture because it was totally unprompted. She jumped into the box (as cats are wont to do) and decided to strike a pose right as I was taking a picture.
I’m not sure, yet, what to think of furless pets. I hope I have the opportunity to meet her. But for now, I’ll say, she kind of creeps me out a bit. 🙂
What have you been up to since the last time we spoke? How goes the writing career? If you have a new release or releases, tell us about them! What inspired you this time and what do fans of Second Run Reviews have to look forward to?
Well, Miss Terri, after quitting my corporate job, I started my own Virtual Assistant business, continued to write and now I’ve been mainly working my butt off as the Manager of Operations at Author Accelerator.
Though I took a short break with my writing career, I’m back and more excited than ever! I have a new release coming out September 28th: Lost in NYC. It’s about a young woman trying to find her “place” in the world all while navigating her love life, her career and her aspirations. I was inspired to write this based off my own desires to move to New York to pursue a writing career when I was in college. Ironically enough, I “shelved” this manuscript weeks before I met my husband online. 😉
I’m excited for your new release and I delighted that you are sharing some teasers with us this week!
What is one item on your bucket list? Why is it on your list?
To go sky diving! I’m not terrified of heights but I do think sky diving would give me the right mix of fear and excitement to make it so much fun.
No, thank you, on the sky diving. I’ll stay inside the plane, thank-you-very-much.
How would you describe your writing process?
Chaotic. LOL. But honestly, it changes for EVERY book—so I guess I have to say that I don’t have a process.
The only things that stay the same are: 1. As soon as I get an idea, I make a new Scrivener project and write down EVERYTHING that is in my head about it. 2. Make a playlist for it. Since music is such a huge part of my life and influences my writing – I always make a playlist for each book and add to it throughout the writing journey.
Strikes me as funny that your writing habits are chaotic. You seem so organized when I talk to you.
Who would you recommend being In the Spotlight and why?
My friend and fellow author, Emerald O’Brien because she’s kind of my soul sister and is this incredibly sweet and kind girl but she has a secret dark side, too 😉 She is one of my go-to friends to talk horror/mystery/suspense with.
What is one question you wish I would have asked, that I haven’t?
What’s your favorite book that you’ve written?
Oh my, that’s a hard one. I have to say that Lost in NYC is definitely one of my favorites. But I’m really excited for revisions on Until They Burn, because the main character is so freaking badass and awesome, I can’t wait for everyone else to meet her.
Any last thoughts or wise words you want to pass along?
I think any creative person should live by the passion they have for their medium. Whether it’s blogging, singing, writing, acting, etc. Passion is what drives this world and I truly believe it’s what we rely on during the darkest of times. It’s what fuels others and allows us to tap into the human connection between us. Never lose your passion!
Thank you, Jade, for being In the Spotlight this week. I hope people will check out your new book, Lost in NYC. Good luck in all your future endeavors and please come back soon and bring us up to date on all your new books.
Title: Lost in NYC
Release Date: September 28, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Synopsis: Mae Carpenter is an aspiring author by day, burger slinger by night and twenty-four-hour imposter. Yep, her daily to-do list consists of serving rude customers, smiling for chump change, and dreaming about being the next J.K. Rowling. #NotTheGlamorousLifeSheExpected
Tired of slinging burgers and watching her hard-earned money fly out the window, she does what any self-respecting, starving artist her age would do—she starts a blog about what else? Being #LostInNYC
What Mae doesn’t expect in the midst of everything else is for the interwebs to connect her with a real-life book boyfriend. #GettingLucky
But when a publishing deal lands at her feet, she knows her life is about to change, and not exactly for the best. Because her anonymous blog? Well, it’s more like an online burn book. And the publisher? They want her to reveal who the posts are about.
Is the dream she thought she wanted worth the price she’ll have to pay?
Note to self:
Next time, don’t write horrible stories about the people you love.
Mae: the almost published, madly in love, worst person EVER!
