It’s over. That’s all she wrote. It’s a wrap. Exit stage left. ICON 39 League of Extraordinary Gentlefen is done. And I am sad. During closing ceremonies, I’ll admit it, I found myself having to hold back tears. Either I had a fantastic time or like an overtired toddler, I was going to throw a tantrum. As a convention attendee and a convention staff member, I’m overjoyed with the entire experience. For close to a year, I was pimping ICON 39 to my family and friends. Begging my husband to leave flyers at the local gaming stores and sharing my love for ICON here on Second Run Reviews. At the con, I really came out of my shell. I was actively engaging with authors attempting to speak intelligently about my beloved fandoms while eating and drinking (Hi A.R. Miller!), books and when pressed why Sleeping Beauty is the best of the Disney princess movies (Hi Maria Watson!). I drug my friend’s daughter who was dress as Poison Ivy over to another convention attendee who was also dressed as Poison Ivy. I dressed up as Geek Chic 4th Doctor one night and as the TARDIS on another night. I belted out […]

Today is the first day of ICON. A quick recap for those fans just joining us recently. ICON is the longest running science fiction-fantasy convention in Iowa. I’ve been a part of the ConCom staff this year. This weekend will be a lot of running around and letting my geek flag fly and then winding down on Sunday worrying that said inappropriate things to the authors I met and “fangirled” over. Here are the panels I plan to attend today.
And so begins the insanity of a Con weekend. A year of hard work all comes together starting tonight with our HUGE author event at Barnes and Noble. It will be an exercise of my book buying obsession to NOT buy a book from every author present. If I did, I probably wouldn’t be able to buy groceries next week. Here’s a list of the authors we currently expect to be in attendance. Joe (and Gay) Haldeman Lar DeSouza Elizabeth Bear Scott Lynch Jim Hines Mickey Zucker Reichert Dennis Green Beth Hudson T.J. Silver Jed Peterson Michael Koogler Rachel Aukes Catherine Schaff-Stump A.R. Miller Sarah Prineas Adam Whitlatch Rachel Eliason Aaron Bunce LaShawn Wanak Melissa Conroy Tara Tolly Shannon Ryan Kathryn Sullivan Stormy Smith This is a free event at the Barnes & Noble in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, October 30 starting at 6:30 PM. If you are in the neighborhood, please drop by and say, HI! Oh, and you can still join us for ICON 39 which starts on October 31. Twitter 5 Facebook 0 Google+ 0 Pinterest 0 StumbleUpon 0
