A Note from the Director: A Few of My Favorite Things

A Note from the Director: A Few of My Favorite Things

Back in October, I made a list of the Top 10 Things I Geek Out About. The Seed Queen, who is a big supporter of Second Run Reviews and knows me well, promptly pointed out in comments that I missed one thing…Straight No Chaser. It’s no secret to those close to me that I am a huge SNC fan. I am an official Chaser and have gotten others addicted to this a cappella group that has roots in the midwest. I’ve been to their concerts in Kansas City, Des Moines (twice), Davenport (twice), Cedar Rapids, and Cedar Falls. So let’s see…that’s 7 concerts, but should be 8, but I was stuck in Minneapolis when they visited the University of Iowa. So I’m just a tiny bit obsessed. We’ve had pretty decent seats at all their concerts. And because social media has played a big part in their discovery and record contract, they don’t mind if you take pictures and videos and post them. Scenic Sundays 03: Straight No Chaser and Steve Wozniak

Scenic Sundays 03: Straight No Chaser and Steve Wozniak

Scenic Sundays was inspired by the last couple of minutes on CBS Sunday Morning and was created in part to help encourage me to share more of my photography. View this quote on flickr. “If you love what you do and are willing to do what it takes, it’s within your reach. And it’ll be worth every minute you spend alone at night, thinking and thinking about what it is you want to design or build. It’ll be worth it, I promise.” Steve Wozniak   Inspire others! A Note from the Director: Cruising with the Winchesters

A Note from the Director: Cruising with the Winchesters

Growing up I can recall watching the episode of Head of the Class where they performed Grease and then finding the Original Cast Recording of Grease in my mother’s cassette collection and listening to that over and over. My sister and I would stage performances of Grease outside on this huge mound of dirt that was in our backyard after they dug the foundation for the house my parents built on our farm circa 1986. I’m sure it was quite the sight to behold as back then we had NO clue what Grease was about, but that music was awesome. As I got older and went to movies with my high school sweetheart, I was tuned into the music. I used to be able to identify the greats like Hans Zimmer, Michael Kamen and John Williams within seconds of a movie starting. It wasn’t unusual for me to immediately go out and by the soundtrack for a movie shortly after seeing it. And in turn, listen to it non-stop for hours on end. I used to prep for my dramatic duo piece about the Holocaust before performing it in a […]
